Sage Sausage Stuffing
This hearty sage sausage stuffing is a savory, flavorful dish that pairs perfectly with roasted meats and is a wonderful addition to your holiday meals. The L&S Artisan Meats Sage Sausage adds depth, richness, and a touch of spice, making it the star of this classic stuffing recipe.
Ingredients (Serves 6-8)
- 1 lb L&S Artisan Meats Sage Sausage, crumbled
- 10 cups day-old bread cubes (a mix of white and whole wheat or French bread works well)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 celery stalks, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp dried sage (or 1 tbsp fresh sage, chopped)
- 1 tsp thyme leaves (optional)
- 1 ½ cups L&S chicken stock
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 large egg, beaten
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
-
Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Butter or oil a 9×13-inch baking dish.
-
Cook the Sausage:
- In a large skillet, cook the L&S Sage Sausage over medium heat until browned and fully cooked, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Once done, transfer to a bowl and set aside.
-
Sauté the Vegetables:
- In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add the onion, celery, and garlic. Sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the sage and thyme, cooking for another minute until fragrant.
-
Combine the Ingredients:
- In a large mixing bowl, add the bread cubes, cooked sausage, and sautéed vegetables. Toss everything together to combine.
- Gradually add the chicken broth to moisten the bread, stirring as you go. The bread should be soaked but not soggy.
- Stir in the beaten egg to help bind the stuffing together. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
-
Bake the Stuffing:
- Transfer the stuffing mixture to the prepared baking dish. Use a spoon to press it down gently.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25-30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the top is golden and crisp.
-
Serve:
- Garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Serve hot alongside your favorite dishes.
