Know Your Farmer: how our pigs are raised
February feels like the right month to slow down and share a little more about how things actually work on our farm.
So, for our first Know Your Farmer note, here’s a simple fact about our pigs—and why it matters.
A pig’s gestation period is 115 days.
Every pig we raise is born here on our farm and stays here its entire life.
Our pigs are ready for processing at around 180 days. That means we’re involved from the very beginning—birth, raising, feeding, and care—every single step of the way.
Our sows have two litters a year, which is much slower than standard commercial farms. We choose this pace intentionally. After giving birth, the mothers raise their babies until they’re ready to wean, and then the sows get time to rest, recover, and enjoy some quiet before the next pregnancy.
That slower rhythm matters—for the animals and for the quality of the meat.
And a small detail we love:
Our biggest, calmest, and friendliest pigs are almost always the moms. They get the most attention, the most scratches, and a lot of time with us—and it shows.
Knowing your farmer means knowing things like this:
• where animals are born
• how long they’re raised
• how they’re treated when no one is watching
If you choose to eat meat, we believe those details matter.

👉 Feed your family food with a real story behind it
As always, our production is limited by what we can raise responsibly. When something is gone, it simply means the next batch isn’t ready yet.
Thanks for caring about where your food comes from.
Warmly,
Lindsay
