A Commitment to Sustainable Farming: Raising Pigs on Pasture

From the very beginning, our mission has been simple: to raise the best pigs, sustainably and naturally. By staying true to our values, we continue to practice rotational grazing, allowing our pigs to roam freely on pasture. Here, they forage on grasses, dig in the mud, and live surrounded by trees—no concrete floors, no cages. These pasture-raised pigs are the cornerstone of the premium quality meats that L&S Artisan Meats is known for.

Take a look at the fields in this picture: on the left, a pasture with minimal activity, save for the occasional cows grazing. On the right, you can see where our pigs have been rotated weekly through sections of pasture over the past year. This approach ensures they always have access to fresh, healthy grass while naturally enhancing the soil. As they root around, our pigs help aerate and fertilize the ground, promoting the growth of vital microorganisms and fungi. This natural cycle enriches the soil, captures carbon, and restores nutrients—creating healthier pastures for when the animals return.

Is it the easiest way to farm? No. But the benefits for the pigs, the land, the environment, and the exceptional quality of our products make every extra step worthwhile. This regenerative method not only improves the health of our animals but also leaves a lasting positive impact on the earth, making it a win for everyone involved.
